Book Description: The influence of Al-Ghazzali upon both the Christian and Islamic thinkers of the Middle Ages and beyond is being more and more widely documented. Known as "The Proof of Islam." Ghazzali finally won acceptance for Sufism in Islam, and his methods of argument and analysis powerfully impressed the schoolmen of the West, who imitated him extensively.

In the East, "Al-Ghazzali has been acclaimed by both Muslim and European scholars as the greatest Muslim after Muhammad" (Professor W. Montgomery Watt). Above all, Ghazzali was a Sufi, and The Alchemy of Happiness is his own abridgement, designed for the ordinary reader, of his colossal masterwork, The Revival of Religious Sciences.

The Kabaah: From The Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) Till Now
Fathi Fawzi' Abd al-Mul'ti | Language: English | Format: PDF | Pages: 158 | Size: 5 MB

It is a grand host to guests from the four corners of the world. It stood resolute against those who sought to destroy it. It warmly received those who honored it, and it salutes those who visit it today. Physically, it is the most central point of the earth; spiritually, it represents the Muslims as a united body, with the Almighty Foremost in our minds.
It bears testimony to the Prophets' call to absolute monotheism, and binds nations and tribes invincibly; its resilience has stood the test of time. This is the Ka'bah - Allah's Sacred House.

Being Like The Teacher

Ramazan M. Zuberi | Language: English | Format: PDF | Pages: 12 | Size: 1 MB

Gathering from the title, one might be wondering what teacher I’m referring to. The title of this article comes from Luke 6:40. Jesus (PBUH) explicitly said that in order for anyone to be like him, they would have to be “perfect” as he was. Insha’Allah (SWT), we will examine the word “perfect” in this verse more in depth. First, we must understand that all prophets lived according to a certain way of life which was total submission to God’s Will. This means that whatever Laws, Rules, Regulations, etc., God sent to them, they abided by in 100% totality. Their message was very clear and in harmony with one another. This is also confirmed in the Qur’an.

First Book of the Hadiqatu L-Haqiqat: Or, the Enclosed Garden of the Truth

By Hakim Abu l-Majd Majdud Sanai

396 kb html (+ jumpable TOC)

"Khaatam" Persian Handicraft

Hakim Abul-Majd Majdud ibn Adam Sana'i was a Persian Sufi poet who lived in Ghazna, Persia during the 11th & 12th century. He probably died around 1150. Rumi acknowledged Sanai as one of his inspirations. Sanai's best known work is "The Walled Garden of Truth or The Hadiqat-ul Haqiqah". Some of his lyrics survive.

He was connected with the court of Bahram-shah who ruled 1118-1152. It is said that once when accompanying Bahramshah on a military expedition to India, Sanai met the Sufi teacher Lai-khur, encounter which led him to quit Bahramshah's service as a court poet even though he was promised wealth and the king's daughter in marriage if he remained.

Hakim Sanai Ghaznavi mocked the pederastic practices of his time, and was perhaps the earliest visualiser of a Pan-Islamic Union in the Muslim world divided in bitterness and bloodshed between the Sunni and Shia sects, where the unfortunate and unimportant
misunderstandings and rival traditions of these two sects are forgone to build a united Islamic world. A couplet from his Diwan reads:

" Ey ké nashnaasi khafi raa az jali, hoshyaar baash !
Ey ggereftaaré Abu-Bakr o Ali, hoshyaar baash ! "
(O! You who cannot read fine print from the bold, beware !
O! You who are engrossed in Abu-Bakr and Ali, beware !)

Well written and well structured this is probably the best introduction to the Muslim religion you can find. Ignore any previous condencending reviews such as "Are Muslims realy like this?" etc.... It realy is beyond me why some think they are qualified to have an opinion so narrow on a religion followed by millions of people as diverse as Chinese, Europeans, Arabs, Africans etc or even on a people.
Imagine if someone put up a review making the same comments about Black people or Asian people, they would immediately be condemned as an ignorant bigot but here we are, Islam is in the news, it sells newspapers and we can use it for and against to get the mob and rabble roused.

Concerning the book, it is basically an introduction to the Muslim religion. It covers all aspects of the faith and how it is understood by Muslims, its impact on the world and the impact that the world outside of Islam had upon it.

There are many other books of a similar style such as Roger Du Pasquier's Unveiling Islam and William Chitticks Vision of Islam but this is by far the best. Recomended to Muslim and non Muslim alike.

Read it and see for yourself.

By Wael B. Hallaq

Publisher: Cambridge University Press
Number Of Pages: 246
Publication Date: 2005-01-10
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0521803322
Binding: Hardcover

Product Description: Covering more than three centuries of legal history, this study presents an important account of how Islam developed its own law from ancient Near Eastern legal cultures, Arabian customary law and Quranic reform. The book explores the interplay between law and politics, demonstrating how the jurists and ruling elite led a symbiotic existence that paradoxically allowed Islamic law to become uniquely independent of the "state."

Seyyed Hossein Nasr, a reviver of the Islamic intellectual tradition and expositor of those traditional doctrines associated with the Sophia Perennis, or al-Hikmah al-Khalidah as it is known in Islamic intellectual discourse, has provided for those pursuing the illumination of the Spirit through the way of the Intellect with a seemingly constant flow of treatises touching on nearly every aspect of what is known as the Din al-Islam.
This particular work seems to be Nasr's final word on the subject of Islamic philosophy; conclusions arrived at after many decades of study, teaching and contemplation. The chief aim of the work can be seen in the following quote from the second chapter
